Daisy Powerline 790 Manual Arts
I was going through some boxes stored two moves ago. I found a Daisy powerline 790 pellet pistol. The original top of the box is there and the pistol is still sitting in the styrofoam holding it in place. The bottom on the box is missing. The pistol looks like it has never been used at all.
I put in a C02 cartridge but it does not hold air. The sticker on the box top says Big 5 Sporting Goods and $41.99.
I can't find information on this pistol on the internet. Any information on this pistol and its value would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul Author Reply Andy (Login ) YF Re: Daisy powerline 790 July 2 2012, 4:37 PM.
I think the 790 one that was originally one of the S&W line of airguns, from back when S&W were actually building airguns. It's an airgun copy of the S&W model 49.22lr pistol. S&W hired some of the Crosman folks that had just developed on the Crosman MkI (which is a Crosman copy of the Ruger MkI.22lr pistol). Smith and Wesson decided to get out of the airgun biz and sold the pistol line to Daisy. Don't know what happened to their air rifle line, and that's about all I know about the 790. They were made from '70 to '78 by Smith and Wesson as the.22 cal. 78g and the.177 cal. 79g; and closely resembled Smith and Wesson's finely made and expensive.22 rimfire model 41 with a long barrel: S&W Model 41 with 7.5' barrel Then Daisy made them as the 780 and 790. I do not know how they compare to the S&W version, but when they discontinued the 790 they came out with a cheapened version (model 41) with more plastic parts.
If you Google the Smith and Wesson version, there is a ton of info including history, tear down instructions, schematics, and uTube tutorials on rebuilding them. Kueng Airguns has reseal kits for $20 shipped. They are in Switzerland, but they are reputable, and shipping is fairly fast: Good luck! Nick sent me a big box of incredible airgun fun today. He's got some kind of secret gift for finding airgun stuff at yard sales, flea markets and gun shows that most of us can only dream about. In the box was a. It was in several pieces. A quick reassembly and I found--as I had been forewarned--that the air valve was leaking like mad. Long time and extremely astute readers will note that of this gun--the discontinued model 722.
I thought I'd blog this anyway. I know, aways late to the party.
Bear with me. The generic term 7XX is used to denote all the variants--the 717, 747 and the discontinued models 777 and 722.
If you've never handled a Daisy 7XX pistol, take a look at that ruler. It's about 14' long. Target guns can be almost cartoonish in size. I began disassembly by removing the rear sight and setting it aside.
Next, put the safety on by pushing it all the way to the right--or the ball bearing and spring will fly across the room. Besm 3rd Edition Monsters In Motion there. Ask me how I know this. Then unscrew the grips.
Open the cocking lever, and remove the three phillips head screws. The left cover lifts right off. The grip frame then pulls off and the compression tube comes off the front. Wrap your hand around the left side of the safety and push it from right to left. The ball bearing and spring will pop out of the body of the safety button. Give the cocking lever a quick close and the air valve and barrel assembly will 'pop' out of the end of the compression tube from the pressure build up.
If the pump seal is bad and it won't build pressure, just pull it straight out. This o-ring seals the face of the valve to the inside of the compression tube so the compressed air goes into the valve instead of leaking around it.
